TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Origin. SuperKettles have been manufactured for many years, and are standard kitchen equipment in many overseas countries, but are being introduced to the UK by newtonz Ltd.
Function. SuperKettles are designed to be filled and left on continuously, so boiling water is available any time for hot drinks, 'instant' foods, filling flasks, speeding pasta or vegetable cooking, etc. They do not need to be emptied, just topped up with cold water at 'quiet' times when hot water is not needed for the short period of heat-up. Although they have a 'reboil' button, this does not speed up the heating, and is not required in normal use.
Dimensions. The SuperKettle has a similar footprint to a traditional kettle. The approximate dimensions are shown on the Sales page, where the depth includes the spout. Remember that you will need room to lift the lid for filling.
Power rating. 230-240 volts, 50 Hz a.c. Heat-up: 700 watts, stand-by/maintain temperature: 45 watts. The SuperKettle is electronically controlled and designed to be left switched on unless it is not required for several days. The low power consumption, less than 3 amps, also make the SuperKettle ideal for use on current-limited supplies such as in caravans or from suitable portable generators, and avoids the long wait for low wattage or gas kettles to boil.
Construction. The SuperKettle has a stainless steel internal chamber with the heating element mounted around it. This is surrounded by the external casing which provides an insulated cavity to reduce heat loss and provide the energy efficiency.
Discharge. There are 2 or 3 ways to obtain hot water from the SuperKettle depending on model: a touch switch on top of the unit, an automatic switch when a cup or similar is held under the outlet (stainless steel model only), and finally by a manually operated pump plate on the lid.
Filling. The SuperKettle is filled by lifting the hinged lid and adding water to the cavity. Depending on usage this is normally needed only once or twice per day, for example, at the end of the day so that it is immediately available the following morning.
Heat-up. If completely filled with cold water, the SuperKettle can take up to 30 minutes to reach maximum temperature, both because of the quantity of water and the lower power consumption than high-speed kettles. However, if it is filled at the start or end of the day or at quiet times, the heating period will cause no inconvenience and the large capacity will provide many uses. The great benefit is the immediate availability of hot water without frequent filling of normal kettles and waiting for it to boil. The SuperKettle automatically adjusts its power use, and switches from standby to reboil if it cools or water is added.
Safety features. The SuperKettles are designed to be left on 24/7 in normal use. They have protection against boiling dry. Remember that like any electrical device, the Superkettle must be placed in a stable location where the cable cannot be accidentally pulled and where children cannot actuate it. The white model has a safety switch which must be pressed before the pump switch, and may be more suitable in situations where children may interfere with the kettle or where the dispense switch could be accidentally activated.
Other Features. Clearly visible water level guage. Swivel base. Indicator lights for heat up and standby. Detachable lid.
Maintenance. The only maintenance required is to descale the interior of the stainless steel pot at intervals depending on the scale build-up. Full instructions for descaling are provided with the unit.
